Job Summary:
As a Vehicle Mechanic, you will be responsible for assembling terminal tractors according to engineering specifications, conducting thorough inspections, performing maintenance, and addressing any issues with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems. Your expertise will ensure that each vehicle meets performance standards and is ready for operational use.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Assembly: Assemble terminal tractors based on engineering specifications and production schedules, ensuring high-quality output.
- Inspections & Adjustments: Conduct in-depth inspections during and after assembly to identify and fix any defects or issues.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnostics: Diagnose and repair vehicle malfunctions, replacing faulty parts to ensure vehicles meet performance standards.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all work, including parts used, repairs completed, and inspections conducted.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other mechanics and assembly line staff to ensure smooth production flow and resolve technical challenges.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
- Problem Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Tools & Equipment: Ability to set up and operate hand and power tools common to the assembly trade.
- Team Collaboration: Effective communication skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Math & Blueprint Reading: Ability to read blueprints and measure accurately using a tape measure.
- Continuous Improvement: Familiarity with Lean principles and participation in continuous improvement activities.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED is required; technical training in automotive or mechanical fields is preferred.
- Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic, particularly with assembly line work.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and equipment, with a strong technical aptitude.
Working Conditions:
- Work may involve being outdoors or in a non-climate-controlled environment for extended periods.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required while on the production floor.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed during job duties.
