Summary
Set-up and operate CNC Lathes for machining aerospace parts. Operator will be running CNCs, as part of a two- or three-person cell. Duties include performing equipment setups, quality inspections, SPC, tracking material, and packaging finished parts.
Essential Functions
- Performs duties consistent with established safety and quality procedures, rules and standards.
- Work from instructions, pre-programmed coding, and operational data and verifies material(s) to work order details.
- Operate control console and check work position at specified reference points, interprets part drawings and uses required measuring instruments to inspect work.
- Ability to setup, operate and troubleshoot equipment without assistance.
- Properly and safely load and unload parts using hoist or hand controlled overhead crane.
- Read job orders and identify required operation specifications.
- Check and record dimensional data against process sheets, blueprints or sketches or with templates, to ensure that work is done to required specifications.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Operate forklift truck or other material handling equipment to move tooling, raw material, pallets, boxes and other items as required.
- Measure and understand statistical process control (SPC) on cut parts and enter data into SPC computer.
- Performs inspection, completes paperwork and prepares parts for transport to next process.
- Interpret blueprints or sketches, CNC program printouts and process sheets to determine and set-up machining as required.
- Operate FANUC CNC control console to set proper feed rates, speed and depth of cut for cutting various geometries.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as electronic gauging equipment depth gauges, and calipers, micrometers in setting-up required tolerances.
- Edit parameters for tool and wear offsets.
- Understands and interprets FANUC G-code programming
- Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling.
- Assists in the organization and maintenance of the machine shop work environment.
- Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
- Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery.
- Provides constant feedback and input into process improvement within the department.
- Communicates honestly, accurately, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills.
- Is flexible with time and schedule to assure product availability to customer or company as circumstances warrant.
- Performs other miscellaneous functions within the department as needed.
- Performs all work in accordance with the PCC Code of Conduct.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- At least two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in heavy manufacturing.
Competencies
- Fanuc CNC control experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of dimensional tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Basic Math Skills (Algebra, Trigonometry).
- Must have attention for detail and responsible for the quality of the material he/she handles.
- Strong work ethic.
- Positive attitude and a team player.
- Willingness to learn & detail oriented.
- Must be willing to work shifts and overtime as needed, including 12-hour shifts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
