Training and Standards Officer - Vancouver, BC (YVR)

We are currently seeking a Full-Time Training and Standards Officer to join our team at our Vancouver, BC Base.

The Training and Standards Officer reports directly to the Director of Flight Operations and indirectly to the Chief Pilot and Flight Attendant Manager. Under the Chief Pilot and Flight Attendant Managers delegation and discretion, the Training and Standards Officer is responsible for ensuring Central Mountain Airs flight crew and flight crew training programs adhere to all training regulations and standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures Central Mountain Airs flight crew training programs adhere to all regulatory and industry regulations and standards.

  • Ensures all flight crew adhere to all regulatory and industry regulations and standards.

  • Complete any amendments, changes, reviews, or other duties associated with any flight crew training, training programs, and records.

  • Ensures all training events are scheduled, complied with, and documented.

  • Provide mentorship and training to all flight crew.

  • Coordinate the development, implementation and administration of ground, simulator and flight training programs in accordance with regulatory and company standards to include initial, upgrade, annual and recurrent training.

  • Coordinate the development, implementation and administration of generic programs for human factors training, instructional training techniques, introduction to command training and instructor training.

  • Ensure compliance with training regulations as set forth in the Canadian Aviation Regulations

  • Develop and implement cost-effective training programs; monitor training budget Maintain currency and act as a line pilot.

  • Ensure safety, security, quality and risk management policies and related applications are adequately implemented, monitored and that the airline operates within a safe environment at all times.

  • Assist the Flight Operations Management team in the development and maintenance of standards across the fleet.

  • Organize training meetings, ground schools and all other training, checking and planning events.

  • Monitors trends for training improvements.

  • Liaise with the Chief Pilot, Flight Attendant Manager, and the Director of Flight Operations on all training matters.

  • Oversight and communication of all flight crew training records, tracking and qualifications.

  • To act as and complete all tasks associated with the EFB administrator.

  • Actively promote safety and quality within the organization and department by encouraging employee participation in SMS and ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.

  • Comply with all SMS and safety policies, processes and standards.

  • Perform pilot duties, training, and checking when assigned.

  • Any additional responsibilities or duties the Director of Flight Operations assigns.

Job Requirements and Qualifications
  • Preference is given to a Captain with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a 705 operation, preferably with DHC-8 experience.

  • Preference with Dash-8 or Dornier 328

  • Valid Category 1 Medical and ATPL.

  • Previous management experience is strongly preferred.

  • University degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of content of Transport Canadas CARs, CASS, Advisory Circulars, and Bulletins.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Contrail Standards and BARS Standards; and all company manuals pertaining to flight operations and safety.

  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player who can work in an autonomous and/or team setting.

  • Flexible and willing to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, flight crews, and Company management.

  • Self-starter with demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills.

  • Possesses analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise good judgment in decision-making.

  • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure

  • Thrives in a fast-moving environment, with a high tolerance for change

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, adaptability to change, and good time management.

  • Strong ability to determine performance goals and ability to hold others accountable.

  • Ability to abide by the rules of confidentiality.
