Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for an HVAC /Building Automation Technician 2/3 (1st Shift) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Under direction of the HVAC Supervisor, be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all equipment used in providing utilities, and environmental conditioning to buildings serviced by the Central Plant and package equipment.
- Installing, programming, testing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, calibrating, operating, maintaining, start-up and commissioning, repairing HVAC/building automation control systems, and related software and hardware equipment.
- Must perform daily maintenance on Siemens, Johnson, Tridium, and Phoenix Controls network software and field panels.
- Troubleshoot problems and take corrective action as required.
- Understand all major building systems as they relate to controls (HVAC, Fire Life Safety, Lighting, Central Plant Operations)
- Be able to maintain and calibrate all system components associated with the BAS.
- Tests, inspects, adjusts, troubleshoots, and diagnoses issues with dampers, actuators, sensors, valves, and other automation components effectively.
- Ability to identify mechanical equipment and related automation components on drawings for chillers, boilers, pumps, AHU’s, FCU’s, VAV’s, etc.
- Understands basic electrical control circuits including 24VAC/DC power and controller input/outputs.
- Able to collaborate with the facilities maintenance department for ordering replacement materials, parts and ensure their prompt delivery and installation.
- Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instruments, circuits, and systems for service reports.
- Monitor, identify, and diagnose potential problems using computer workstations and on-site observations.
- Stay updated with industry advancements, incorporating new technologies and best practices into your work to enhance the efficiency of building automation systems.
- Must be able-bodied and willing to work rotating weekends and be on call to address emergency service requests promptly.
- Have a thorough knowledge of current energy efficient building components and how they may be used to reduce site energy consumption.
- Provide management with clear and concise reports on matters pertaining to building operations.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Candidates must be able to communicate their experience in detail as it relates to the above responsibilities and basic qualifications in this role.
Level 2:
- High School Diploma/GED with Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience in building automation controls, encompassing installation, service, point-to-point testing, and programming.
- Strong understanding of HVAC Mechanical and BAS Systems
- Must possess comprehensive knowledge of pneumatic and DDC control components and scenarios.
- Tridium Niagara N4 certification is highly regarded.
- Exceptional technical acumen related to mechanical and electrical systems within building automation.
- Adeptness at reading and interpreting technical blueprints and schematics.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills complemented by keen attention to detail.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both in written and spoken forms
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team framework.
- Valid non-expired Driver’s License
- Ability to work 1st shift 9/80 (5:00AM to 2:30PM PST)
Level 3:
- High School Diploma/GED with Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in building automation controls, encompassing installation, service, point-to-point testing, and programming.
- Strong understanding of HVAC Mechanical and BAS Systems

Preferred Qualifications:
- Electrical or Mechanical or equivalent field experience.
Salary Range: $57,800 - $96,300
Salary Range 2: $68,600 - $114,400
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
