Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility for the remaining 40 of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration, and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.
As one of WestJet’s Human Resources Business Partners you are an essential resource and partner for frontline and senior managers within your portfolio. You provide support and assistance for the leaders’ growth and development by establishing strong relationships and liaising with our centres of excellence. You offer consultative services to support a wide range of leadership management opportunities within our unionized and non-unionized work groups. Collaborating within the broader People and Culture team, your team is a high performing and well-respected group of HR professionals. You are passionate about what you do and meet your commitments producing high quality work with little to no oversight required.
Responsibilities:
- Work in partnership with the Senior HR Business partner, COE’s and business to execute on setting short term and long-term strategies for recruitment, retention and engagement of the business group(s) supported
- Provide coaching to all levels of leadership on various employee relations matters such as performance & talent management, progressive discipline, individual improvement plans, accommodation best practices, etc.
- Leverage workforce data to formulate people insights and recommendations. Provide context to data and be able to translate data into a story for the business
- Provide leaders with subject matter expertise with respect to WestJet internal HR policies/programs, Canada Labour Code interpretations, Human Rights legislation, etc.
- Provide coaching to leaders on development, identify opportunities for individual growth and development as well as provide coaching to leaders needing development plans
- Lead investigative meetings with leaders relating to various matters including escalated interpersonal conflict, misconduct, or other investigations as assigned to support the Investigations team
- Collaborate with Internal Investigations and leaders to help facilitate negotiated resolution where required in the Harassment & Violence process
- Work hand in hand with the Senior HR Business partner on any people impacting project (whether urgent or strategic), roll out, that involves work with multiple stakeholders
- Cultivate and maintain harmonious relationships with Unions and Employee Associations
- Be a solutions focused thought partner, and a change agent
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of experience working in a HR Generalist capacity
- Ability to manage expectations of, and strategically support, high volume of multiple stakeholders from different departments
- Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and align outcomes throughout the organization
- Proactive thinking skills with focus on strategic organizational objectives
- Results oriented with a coaching mindset
- Embraces and works comfortably with a high pace of change ambiguity
- Knowledge of Human Resources legislation and Canadian Labour Code
- Labour Relations and union negotiations experience a strong asset, including collective bargaining agreement interpretation and implementation
- Airline experience considered an asset
- Proficiency in MS Suite
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Employment Law, Labor/Industrial Relations or related field required
- CHRP/CPHR designation required
