GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position assists all plant operations in controlling processes to levels that meet expectations related to quality, cost, control and consistency. Creates and maintains databases and performance reporting. Troubleshoots variability for reduction or elimination. Incumbent will perform projects with the goal of achieving cost reductions and process and part improvements. Leads Wax Process Control team and works closely with Operations Leadership to improve and maintain processes that support quality initiatives.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Create, maintain, & evaluate process control systems and procedures.
- Troubleshoot activities with variation and out of control parameters.
- Utilize NEI Six Sigma tools as the basis for project management.
- Set up projects, collect and input data, perform statistical analysis as the measure for significance.
- Interface with Engineering and Manufacturing to determine root cause for process and part issues.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements resulting in cost reduction, quality improvement, and increased efficiency.
- Perform day-to-day monitoring of department specific KCC (key control characteristics) and KPO (key process outputs).
- Complete tasks/projects on a timely basis with accuracy using sound scientific methodology, with attention to detail and good judgment.
- Work and communicate effectively with manufacturing, quality, planning and engineering.
- Provide input and analysis for procedural changes to include work instructions, manuals, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and direct Wax Process Control team, including Wax Auditors and Document Control Technician.
- Drive Wax Auditors and Technicians to achieve the highest level of quality regarding wax molds input into Investing.
- Generate and maintain “workmanship” standards for auditor feedback to assemblers.
- Schedule Wax Auditors to support Investing intake schedule.
- Control Wax Molding parameters to achieve high quality wax patterns to assembly.
- Coordinate with Wax Operational Leadership to support timely and thorough work instruction updates.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and ability to perform statistical analysis and technical report preparation.
- Working knowledge of relational database applications (MS Access, Oracle, etc.); working knowledge of VB and SQL. Strong understanding of statistics.
- Demonstrated proficiency w/MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all levels.
- Ability to define, plan, and complete projects with accuracy on a timely basis.
- Ability to prepare written reports and make presentations.
- Ability to travel as necessary and work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
- Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles and methodology toward problem identification and resolution.
- Ability to work with people with diverse expertise and backgrounds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
BS in an engineering/science related field, preferably Metallurgy, Mechanical, Material Science, or Ceramics. Six Sigma Black Belt certified or ability to become certified. Three to five years experience in manufacturing or process control related environments preferred. Leadership experience and experience in the Titanium Casting industry preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to exert up to 35 pounds of force to move an object. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, smoke and varying temperatures. Ability to travel to different departments and stand for long periods on concrete.
