Job Summary

The Senior Manager Controller manages multiple Teams while consulting on complex Company-wide initiatives and finance projects with a strong working knowledge of financial systems, processes, integrations, and interdependencies across the organization. This role will provide financial risk oversight and protect Southwest against accepting costly and unmanageable risk. The Senior Manager Controller is an adaptable problem-solver who is passionate about building relationships and finding ways to reinvigorate the future of Southwest Airlines.
Responsible for leading functional Teams and/or individual contributors within the Controller risk & compliance function while working with Senior Leaders across the Enterprise to execute the Companys strategic plan. Maintains, advances, and supports Finance in its responsibility to deliver a culture of compliance that encourages collaboration, self-reporting, awareness, engagement, education, investigation, and resolution as it relates to applicable laws, regulations, and private contracts in the Finance space (e.g., Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO), Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental, Sustainability & Governance (ESG)). Works with cross-departmental leaders and decision makers to ensure efficient risk management, including identification and effective management of key risks and integration of mitigating strategies.

Responsibilities
- Maintain strong working knowledge of EVP/CFO organization purpose, goals and vision, and utilize knowledge to identify potential business and financial risks, develop mitigation plans, and be forward- thinking
- Provide routine feedback and insights on business performance to Controller Leadership, leveraging key performance indicators
- Consult on complex enterprise-wide financial and operational systems and projects impacting Finance and communicate associated risks, controls, and compliance
- Examine department and system controls, processes, policies, and procedures on a regular basis, and explore ideas to optimize and enhance without limiting effectiveness
- Create, communicate, and manage the execution of a strategic Team Vision that aligns with the Controller and Company Visions
- Partner with technology planning and project management resources to guide Controller initiatives and Finance-impacting projects through the technology planning and budgeting implementation processes
- Represent Southwest Airlines at industry forums and take a Leadership role on industry committees
- Communicate updates and actionable, data-driven recommendations on Department and cross-functional activities at the Executive level
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee&39;s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing Customer and personal services, including Customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of Customer Satisfaction
- Skilled in anticipating future or strategic trends within the industry and assessing implications for the Department
- Skilled in translating objectives into well-defined strategies, plans, priorities, and assignments for functional area
- Skilled in effectively communicating information and ideas in a concise and compelling story-line using all forms of communication, tailoring tone, style and content to the intended audience up to the executive level
- Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Ability to achieve both the Teams goals and Members development by means of coaching, to increase their own proficiency, and performance as a result
- Ability to quickly analyze and guide business decisions through unique insights, strategic advice on trends, industry, market factors, and other drivers while mitigating financial and business risks.
Pay of $ $137,250.00 to $152,500.00 per year*, with the opportunity for future increase per applicable collective bargaining agreement wage scale based on time in position. Opportunities for overtime and shift premiums.

Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading Team(s)
- Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:
- Financial and operations systems and/or processes
- Presentation and explanation of financial results to various levels of leadership
- Preferred: Experience with risk management, external/internal auditing, SOX programs
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
- Must have the flexibility to work extended hours, including occasional weekends, and Company holidays.
