Job Description:

General Purpose of Job:

The Aviation Safety Manager is a mid-level position responsible for supporting the execution of Avflight’s Safety Management System (SMS) across a multi-location Fixed Base Operator (FBO) network. Reporting to the Senior Safety / Project Manager, this position works closely with field teams to support safety practices, address operational safety needs, and assist with continuous improvement efforts.

This is a hands-on role focused on the consistent application of established safety programs, standards, and processes. The position is well suited for an experienced aviation safety professional seeking to expand multi-site exposure and continue developing within a safety leadership path.

Duties:

Safety Support & Field Engagement

  • Provide day-to-day safety coordination and field support across Avflight FBO locations.
  • Serve as a safety resource for General Managers and operational teams.
  • Assist field leadership with hazard identification, safety concerns, and corrective actions.
  • Support safety communications, meetings, and best-practice sharing across locations.

SMS Implementation & Management

  • Support the maintenance and consistent execution of Avflight’s Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Assist with updates to SMS policies, procedures, manuals, and supporting documentation.
  • Help ensure SMS alignment with FAA guidance and FBO operational best practices.

Risk Management

  • Identify operational hazards specific to FBO environments.
  • Support risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and tracking of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Compliance, Auditing, and Investigations
  • Support compliance with FAA, OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ATA, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Conduct assigned internal safety audits and site reviews.
  • Support external audits and regulatory inspections as needed.
  • Participate in investigations of incidents, accidents, fuel quality events, and safety reports.
  • Assist with root cause analysis, documentation, and corrective action tracking.

Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor safety data, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Prepare summaries and reports for review by senior safety leadership.
  • Identify recurring issues and opportunities for process improvement.

Standards, SOPs & Training

  • Support adherence to Avflight Standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with review and implementation of procedural updates and safety-related training materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support

Qualifications:

Required

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in aviation safety and/or Safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • Prior experience in lead, trainer, supervisor, or mid-level management role.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Fuel Quality Control & Assurance (ATA 103)
    • NFPA codes applicable to aviation and fueling operations
    • SPCC guidelines and requirements
    • OSHA General Industry regulations
    • Safety and operational training requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple locations.
  • Valid Driver’s License with driving record meeting company standards.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred

  • Background in FBO operations, fuel operations, and ramp safety.
  • Familiarity with safety data tracking systems and audit processes.
