Are you a seasoned mechanical design engineer looking to take your career to the next level? We are seeking a passionate and innovative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic seating team. If you have a knack for designing cutting-edge components and systems, and a drive to develop technically advanced prototypes, we want you on our team!
What You Will Do:
- Design major components and systems using state-of-the-art computer design and engineering tools.
- Develop and improve products, facilitating efficient manufacturing operations.
- Create detailed layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals, considering ease of manufacture, material availability, and cost efficiency.
- Conduct in-depth investigations into design factors such as strength-weight efficiency and contractual specifications.
- Design, develop, and test both metallic and non-metallic structures and their fabrication processes.
- Ensure clarity, completeness, and accuracy in all design layouts and drawings.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to coordinate interrelated designs and ensure seamless project completion.
- Perform weight analyses to meet contractual requirements without compromising structural integrity.
- Lead cost studies and provide technical leadership to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Travel Requirements: 0-10 to a local sister site.

Industry-Specific Knowledge: If the candidate has prior experience in commercial aircraft seating design, they will deepen their understanding of this niche industry. They will learn about FAA requirements, design standards, and best practices specific to aircraft seating products.
CAD Software Proficiency: The job requires proficiency in software such as Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD tools. Candidates will enhance their skills in using these software applications for designing and modeling complex mechanical systems.
Quality Assurance: Through tasks such as reviewing layouts and drawings for clarity and accuracy, candidates will develop an eye for detail and a commitment to quality assurance in design processes.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
Regardless of your role type, collaboration and innovation are critical to our business and all employees will have access to digital tools so they can work with colleagues around the world – and access to Collins sites when their work requires in-person meetings.
The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
