With little or no supervision, the Avionics Sheetmetal Specialist III fabricates and installs aircraft parts and assemblies in accordance with FAA requirements, GDMR-101, DUN-A-1 and company approved procedures in a safe, clean and organized work area. In addition, this position assists with training less experienced technicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. With little or no supervision, measures dimensions, contours, trim lines, angles, radii and coordination of parts for conformance to blueprints and specifications, using precision measuring equipment, to competently fabricate fixtures, brackets, housings and related parts from sheetmetal, stainless steel and composites according to DUN-A-1, technical reference materials, and related FAA approved documents. Fabricates and assembles tubing components and cable assemblies following blueprints and specifications.
2. With little or no supervision, fabricates, and installs parts, assemblies and antenna doublers in specified aircraft locations in pressurized and non-pressurized aircraft. Finds alternate installation locations as needed. Performs troubleshooting skills.
3. With little or no supervision, designs parts to be fabricated or welded including assembly sketches, hardware and installation specifications in accordance with DUN-A-1 and FAA specifications and regulations. Designates correct fasteners, using fastener codes, for each installation. Documents procedures and techniques for engineering and FAA approval.
4. With little or no supervision, performs cockpit detailing and refurbishing to include locating, layout and cutting, patching, and cutting holes for instruments, control panels, switches, etc. Finishes and engraves, including paint matching, touchup and airbrush work.
5. Completes required paperwork for work order. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the work order procedures. Enters description of work completed. Properly documents all removal and installation of aircraft parts and accessories according to Installations approved procedures.
6. With little or no supervision, uses appropriate corrosion control processes upon completion of parts and fixtures before installation in aircraft.
7. Provides OJT to less experienced technicians to ensure technical development and accurate work.
8. Disassembles and reassembles aircraft interior, instrument panels and avionics equipment bays prior to and/or following the installation of aircraft systems, using proper handling and storage techniques.
9. Maintains current industry, equipment and FAA knowledge by attending factory classes, OJT and by researching and reading technical documents, trade publications, FARs, etc. Assists lesser experienced technicians in interpreting Company policies and the FARs.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

5+ previous sheetmetal, aircraft structures, fabrication or related experience required
