Amentum is seeking a Power Production Mechanic for the Las Vegas, NV area. The primary purpose of this position is to install, operate, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical power production equipment and associated components; electrical distribution equipment, diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines, aircraft arresting barriers, real property installed generators, mobile electrical power systems, fire suppression systems and associated support equipment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Installs, inspects, and performs modifications and repairs to electrical power support systems such as electrical power plants and power distribution equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance on electrical power support systems. Performs major repair, replacement, and overhaul of power support system components such as diesel, multi-fuel, or gas engines, and electrical accessories of engines.
Troubleshoots electrical power support systems such as electrical power plants and power distribution equipment.
Maintains, inspects, repairs, diagnoses, and modifies aircraft arresting systems.
Maintains records and documents actions.
Performs standard computations relating to load requirements of electrical circuits.
Proficient in the use of electrical hand tools and test and measurement equipment.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures, follows established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Guides and conducts on-the-job training for less experienced personnel.
Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to powered support systems. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel and gasoline engines.
Knowledge of the operation of emergency generator power systems. Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides.
Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors.
Skill in using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, and electrical meters to include special tools such as hydraulic knock-out tools, hammers, drills, valve spring compressors, and micrometers.
Skill in installing, operating, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying generators, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptable power systems; and in maintaining, overhauling, repairing, and reconditioning internal combustion engines, both diesel and gasoline.
Skill in troubleshooting complex situations related to electrical power generators. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training to others.
Must be able to obtain an airfield driver’s license; position requires a Secret Security clearance.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in power generation equipment repairs.
Must be able to obtain and retain a Nevada drivers license.
Must accomplish OSHA 10-Hour Construction Training, maintain CPR/First Aid card, have the ability to obtain and retain a security clearance and access to the work location(s).
Must be a United States citizen, pass a pre-hire drug screening and Fit-for-Duty physical.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision or guidance, respond to service calls within the allowable time frame.
May have to drive a motor vehicle up to a 2 1/2-ton truck.
May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Emergency overtime may be required.
Will need to bring: Social Security Card, original state issued birth certificate or Naturalized Certificate and valid driver’s license.
Must be willing to travel/work up to 50 of time.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers. May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to heat, bad weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment, and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eye glasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, clothing, and arc flash gear. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.
