SUMMARY:
NDT Technician Trainees are required to be active participants in the training program for the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as controlled by NAS 410 and PCC Procedure RI 4.1.
Trainees gain work experience under the direct observation of a certified Level 2 or Level 3 or, a certified Level 1 or NDT instructor only when approved by the Responsible Level 3.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
TRAINEE:
An individual who is documented as participating in a training program for an NDT method and is in the process of
becoming qualified for certification to Level 1-Limited, Level 1 or directly to Level 2 shall be considered a trainee. In
the technique/method in which they are preparing for certification, trainees shall:
- Be documented as a trainee and be actively participating in a training program for a stated NDT method for a limited and specified period of time.
- Obtain experience under the direct observation of a Level 2 or Level 3 in the same method.
- Obtain experience under the direct observation of a Level 1 or instructor only when approved by the responsible Level 3.
- The trainee follows established procedures and part specific technique cards.
- Report faulty operations, defective material or solutions, and report these and any unusual conditions to proper supervision.
An NDT trainee will be actively working toward obtaining their level one. See below:
LEVEL 1:
In the method in which certified, Level 1 individuals shall:
- Be able to follow work instructions.
- Have the skills and knowledge to process parts, document results and perform equipment standardization in accordance with approved work instructions.
- Have the skills and knowledge to carry out any necessary preparation of parts before or after testing in accordance with approved work instructions.
- Have the skills and knowledge to conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standard.
- Receive guidance or supervision from a certified Level 2 or Level 3 in that method when necessary.
- When specified in the written practice and approved by the Responsible Level 3, may perform interpretations and evaluations of specific product(s) or product form(s) for acceptance or rejection in accordance with approved work instructions.
A trainee is not permitted to:
- Make accept or reject decisions.
- Independently conduct tests within the method.
- Independently perform any other NDT function.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies, and procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
- Must participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of facility.
- Perform all physical functions of position, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, walking, twisting, kneeling, turning, and lifting of materials up to 50 lbs.
- Meet established attendance standards.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Must report any work-related injury or illness immediately to your direct supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Must qualify to PCC Structurals Quality Control Procedure RI 4.1
- The position requires a minimum of a high school diploma with the ability to read and follow established procedures and instructions.
- The individual will be required to enter a formal training program to obtain a certification as a Level 1 technician.
- Use simple arithmetic including decimals and fractions as needed.
- Must have the ability to read and work from established procedures, specifications, formulas, charts, tables, drawings, similar information.
- Entry level position with no previous experience in the method.
