The GSE Mechanic Apprentice gains experience and knowledge to be a GSE Mechanic through on-the-job training which may be combined with a trade program or other schooling.
JOB PURPOSE
To perform maintenance on Ascent Aviation Ground Support Equipment Apprentice.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands: Lifting, Standing, Sitting, Bending, and Walking.
Equipment Operated: Man-lifts, Scissor-lifts, Pick-up Truck, and Forklifts.
Work Location: Ground Support Building.
Potential Hazards: Noise Exposure, Chemical Exposure.
Protective Equipment Required: Safety Shoes, Hearing Protection, and Eye Protection.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Trained to receive work orders and obtain the necessary tools required for the repair.

Transports the vehicle(s) to be repaired by driving, towing, or pushing the vehicle into the service bay. Vehicles may consist of tugs, forklifts, payloaders, and other larger airport vehicles.

Through training and guidance:

- Repair Hydraulic, electric, and mechanical systems.
- How to change batteries, tires, oil, and fuel and perform preventative maintenance on equipment and other minor repairs.

Obtains replacement parts, installing and making repairs as required. Repairs may require assisting with rebuilding assemblies, systems, etc.

Confers with a manager or GSE mechanics for complex repairs, which require direction or approval for ordering of parts.

Completes work orders and provides status on any "open" work orders as instructed, with or without support.

All other duties the GSE Manager assigned the necessary training, skills, and knowledge to advance to a GSE Mechanic.
Marginal Job Functions:
Ensure that all work performed is done safely. Directs activities to protect employees from harm and maintain safe working conditions.
SMS REQUIREMENTS
Will participate in and support safety initiatives, safe work practices, and SMS compliance.
Will participate in safety activities including the following: immediately reporting hazards, unsafe work practices, and accidents/injuries.
Will follow all safety rules, FAA regulations, PPE compliance, and equipment operation requirements.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Mechanical Equipment and the repair of equipment. Ability to read and interpret repair manuals. Knowledge of hand and power tools. Understanding of common repair hardware. Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.

Education/Training: High School or Equivalent, Maintenance Technical training or Job-Related Experience.
Qualifications:
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, 5-year background check, 10-year criminal history check and security threat assessment.
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• Must possess a Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
• Knowledge in the repair of heavy-duty diesel/automotive equipment, electrical and hydraulic systems, welding, fabricating, auto body, and paint is highly desirable but not required.
•Must have own tools and be able to operate various power and hand tools safely.
Certificates/Licenses: A valid AZ driver&39;s license is required. Ascent Aviation Operating Permit.
Other:
May be required to work at both Marana, AZ, and Tucson, AZ locations as business needs dictate.
Able to learn such duties within a reasonable amount of time.
