The Director of Maintenance is responsible for administering the Part 135 Maintenance Department. This position requires a high level of expertise in aircraft maintenance, regulatory compliance, personnel management, policies, processes, and department standard operating procedures.  In conjunction with upper management, the individual will continue the development of policies, procedures, and systems to maximize the utilization of company aircraft.

Northwind Aviation is seeking an A&P mechanic to help us maintain our fleet of 1 Piper Navajo, 2 Cessna 206, 2 Turbine Beavers, and 1 Garrett Otter. Extensive Piper, Cessna, and/or de Havilland experience is required. This position requires a high level of expertise in aircraft maintenance, regulatory compliance, personnel management, policies, processes, and department standard operating procedures.

Management of the Northwind Aviation maintenance department

  • Create an annual operating budget and submit it to management for approvals
  • Abide by purchasing protocols for parts and equipment (management approval for purchases exceeding $500)
  • Operate the maintenance department with efficiency and frugality

Manage Maintenance Personnel

  • Ensure you and all direct reports are routinely and accurately logging timecards based on hours, location, and tasks
  • Ensure compliance with FAA and Company Drug and Alcohol Programs
  • Accountable for all mechanics to be onsite daily
  • Supervise, manage, and train as necessary other mechanics, plane washers, fuelers

Inventory and Asset Management

  • Responsible for the inventory of all NWA-owned tools and equipment. Implement a system that provides visibility to management. Track times and calendar dates for factory-recommended replacements and overhauls
  • Keep parts inventory for each aircraft to ensure dispatch reliability. Build and maintain a minimum quantity of spare parts for each plane.
  • Inventory parts to sell that are non-essential to our operation (i.e. piston Beaver engine parts, etc)
  • Maintain current FAA certifications for all tools and equipment (i.e., torque wrenches are calibrated and certified per FAA. Cert documentation readily available).
  • Assist in the winterization and maintenance of DAAC assets as necessary (outside of aviation)
  • Check and maintain ample fuel in storage during the season and order as necessary

Aircraft and Facility Maintenance

  • Track and maintain each aircraft to airworthy standards – including oil changes, Annual Inspections, 100 Hour Inspections, up-to-date logbook entries, 337s, in aircraft documentation/status sheets, PFDs, fire extinguishers, recurring ADS,
  • Place up-to-date oil changes and 100-hour stickers in the aircraft
  • During the season - perform daily walk around inspections on each aircraft and record findings. Sump fuel, check for cleanliness (report to DO if unacceptable), lube control hinges, check lights, pump floats, etc. 
  • Meet with FAA as necessary for logbook, aircraft, and base inspections
  • Wash and winterize each aircraft at the end of the season. I.e. pull from the lake, remove batteries, lube, antifreeze in floats, control locks install, etc. Note any damage, corrosion, worn parts, etc. that need to be repaired in the off-season
  • Complete conformity documentation and aircraft compliance for aircraft being added to our certificate
  • Maintain Lake office and mobile fuel systems, pumps, filters, hoses, nozzles, fire extinguishers, placards and signs
  • Maintain the hangar as necessary including doors, heating, water systems, plowing, forklift, fuel and float trailers, etc.
  • Ensure aircraft are secured properly with gust locks, tie-down ropes, prop boots, etc. when stored outside
  • Maintain AD and SB subscriptions as required to keep aircraft in excellent condition

Communication

  • Communicate with pilots on discrepancies and remedy them as soon as possible
  • Provide management with end-of-week reports for work accomplished. This is mandatory and will be done year-round.
  • Coordinate with Avionics shops for transponder IFR certifications
  • Aggressively correct deferred maintenance and communicate with parts suppliers to get delivery expedited and the aircraft returned to service. In season - once an issue has been identified, all repairs will be fast-tracked.  Coordinate with dispatch to remove the aircraft from service for repairs. 
  • Be accessible by cell phone at all times during the season.
  • In the event of an accident or incident, defer all media inquiries or requests for information to the Director of Operations
