Position Summary:
Level Two: The Chemical Operator/Maintenance Operator is responsible for managing the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. This role involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, conducting inspections, and providing training to staff on hazardous materials management. The Operator is also in charge of supporting maintenance persons perform basic PM on CNC such as fans, and filters, and silicone lathes, minor repairs on, manual machines, mills, lathes, grinders, small ovens, sealers, etc. Level two will also perform basic to intermediate facility maint. tasks such as fixing A/C units; able to do basic diagnostic and replacement of key components for AC units, ovens, fans. Basic understanding of carpentry; good communication skills a must in reading, writing and verbalizing, calipers and basic shop math. Typically 3-6 years of experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, RCRA, and other relevant regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hazardous materials laws and standards.
- Oversee the proper storage, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of hazardous materials handling areas.
- Contact the Hazardous Waste company for pick-ups.
- Order supplies needed for Hazardous Waste storage.
- Drive a forklift to move drums and totes to designated areas.
- Understanding Batch/ pH neutralization.
- Pump out chemical tanks.
- PM for CNC machines - Pump out CNC cooling tanks and clean tanks afterwards.
- Dump scrap material into the correct containers.
- Manage all satellite containers, ensure RCRA compliance.
- Assist with permit required sampling.
- Contain, manage, clean, and report chemical spills.
- Complete weekly inspections of waste storage.
- Monitor and inspect clarifier logbook and follow permit requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of hazardous materials inventory and disposal.
- Prepare and provide data to EHS department for submittal to regulatory agencies.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential environmental hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
- Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
- Plan operational sequence and methods to use when repairing, assembling, installing and check testing machine tools
- Perform basic repairs in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer&39;s specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, using hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments:
- Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Perform Preventive Maintenance according to schedule
- Disassemble, assemble and install machines and related hydraulic and pneumatic systems and controls such as for lathes, NC, mills, grinders
- Check functionality of machines worked after repair, maintenance and installation
- Assist Maintenance Level 3 for Turret and Spindle alignment when needed
- Perform carpentry work on permanent structures, office partition, panels, floors, office doors and windows. Saw and finish to specification or requirements by using hand and power woodworking tools.
- Layout, cut and install various types, sizes and shapes of equipment.
- Perform basic electrical installation when equipment is moved from one area to another
- Lubricates and cleans parts
- Initiate purchase order for parts and machines
- Replace lights bulbs, and broken windows, fixed toilets etc.
- Assist Maintenance Level 3 to install, repair, and maintain plant
- Perform good housekeeping practices
- Perform other duties as required by supervisor or manager
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of hazardous materials regulations and safety practices.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to conduct training and present information effectively.
- Certifications: DOT, Title 29 CFR, and Haz waste Management preferred.
- The ability to read and write English.
- An introductory competence in shop math such as working with fractions and decimals.
- A basic knowledge of inspection tools and their proper use.
- A basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical application regarding nuts and bolts.
- A basic knowledge of part holding methods and procedures.
- A basic knowledge of machine shop tools
- The ability to interact with computers and CNC controls at a basic level.
- The ability to interact and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- The ability to read electrical and machine drawings and diagrams at basic level
- The ability to perform basic Preventive Maintenance for all CNC, lathes, etc. following equipment checklists
- The ability to interact and use electrical tools such as voltmeters, ohmmers, etc...
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Required Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in hazardous materials management or a related field. Understanding of DOT, Title 29 CFR, and Haz waste Management
- This position requires basic experience working with mechanical processes and methods such as hand tools, and light equipment such as saws, drills and pneumatic tools. Furthermore, they should have good understanding of carpentry and equipment basic repairs.

Physical Ability
- May require work outside of regular business hours, including weekends.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to hazardous substances.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Level of Education:
- GED or High School diploma preferred but not required.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $29.00 to $38.25 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 96 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
