STi is looking for an Aircrew Life Support Equipment (ALSE) Mechanic It to join our team. Air Station Kodiak operates 5 HC-130J “Super Hercules”, 6 MH-60T “Jayhawks”, and 4 MH-65D “Dolphins” in an area of responsibility (AOR) covering 4 million square miles including the Gulf of Alaska, Bristol Bay, Bering Sea, and the Pacific Ocean above the 40?N latitude. The Air Station is the largest Coast Guard command in District 17 (D17) and the entire Pacific Area (PACAREA). Air Station Kodiak’s AOR is uniquely challenging in its vastness, hazardous terrain and frequent poor weather characterized by high winds, turbulence, icing, low cloud ceilings, and reduced visibility. At Air Station Kodiak, the supplemental Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) Inspector/Maintainer will bolster the unit’s ability to meet training and operational demands of this complex region

Job Requirements:
  • At least three (3) years experience inspecting, maintaining, and modifying aviation rescue and survival equipment similar to that being supported is required. Five (5) years experience is desired.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of a wide variety of ALSE parts, components, and complex assemblies associated with aircraft systems.
  • Ability to rig, function test, or troubleshoot the ALSE systems; determine when they are operating properly or whether portions of the system must be repaired or replaces; and the type and extent of repair needed.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of a wide variety of ALSE parts, components, and complex assemblies associated with aircraft systems.

  • Have knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of USCG ALSE equipment installed on USCG aircraft stationed at AIRSTA Kodiak.
  • Have skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and the equipment of the trade including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands and external power sources.
  • Have knowledge of activity supply procedures to be able to initiate requisitions for needed parts and supplies and has a thorough knowledge of the publication order system to obtain the most up-to-date technical manuals and to propose changes to publications when they find a discrepancy.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply trade or administrative guides such as technical manuals, technical orders, blueprints, sketches, and other related documents.
  • Ability to, reach, bend, walk, pull, sit, stand, crouch, stoop, kneel and stretch for prolonged periods of time.
  • Frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds).
  • Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh about 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers, if required.
  • Ability to work in cramped, awkward and strained positions or to climb ladders, work platforms, scaffolding and aircraft structures.
  • Capability to work in regulated areas with toxic materials present including hexavalent chromium and cadmium. This will include use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective clothing, etc.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to follow appropriate safety procedures common to the trade.
  • Knowledge of specific hazardous materials and hazardous wastes procedures is necessary, including the proper fitting and usage of protective gear and completion of related training.
  • Technical capability/experience with aircraft, airframes, and substructures. Should include maintenance of primary, secondary, and tertiary structures.
  • Ability to conduct research using USCG data systems such as Aviation Technical Information Portal (ATIP) or similar type systems.
  • Ability to access and navigate the Aviation Logistics Maintenance Information System (ALMIS)
  • Familiarity with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals or similar manuals with the ability to research maintenance history, procedures and component limitations is desired.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of a wide variety of LOX containers, servicing, and how LOX integrates with C-130J aircraft systems.
  • Ability to service, function test, or troubleshoot LOX system; determine when the system is operating properly or whether portions of the system must be repaired or replaced; and the type and extent of repair needed. Make recommendations to LOX Storage Facility manager if repairs are needed to dispensing equipment.
  • Ensures proper safety precautions employed by workers who operate aircraft LOX servicing carts.
