Job Description:
Salary: $33.00 - 38.00/hr (DOE)
 
Position Summary
 
The Aircraft Structural Mechanic will inspect fabricated and installed parts such as brackets, angles, doublers, and other items necessary for the maintenance and modification of assigned aircraft. Layout, fabricate, assemble, install, sheet metal products and equipment on aircraft. Read drawings to determine part-fitting operations: filing, sawing, deburring, trimming, riveting, drilling, reaming, countersinking, and counterboring. Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, and rulers. Sets up composite parts for fabrication; reads and interprets drawings, planning, process specifications, and other documents to understand tooling, materials, sequence of operations, techniques, and other factors required for fabrication.
 
Responsibilities
  • Spray or brush prepared surfaces with specified amounts of alodine, primers, or finish coatings per engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Monitors and verifies the quality of the finished product.
  • Completes repairs on composite, metal, or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions.
  • Operate ovens to complete the bonding cycle.
  • Understanding of ply orientations and vacuum bagging processes
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on assigned T/M/S aircraft.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, standard repair manuals, and other relevant technical data and procedures.
  • Remove and replace rivets, hi-locks, and other structural fasteners.
  • Ream holes as required in accordance with technical directives and publications.
  • Fabricate and install structural components for repair or modification.
  • Adhere to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.
  • Comply with established company, general, occupational, and industrial safety rules, and regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 or more years of experience in aircraft maintenance and/or flight line occupational field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable maintenance and technical manuals, publications, instructions, and special tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and specialized equipment for structural fabrication, measurement, and assembly.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
Physical Demands
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds (with assistance, if required).
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, reaching with hands and arms.
Work Authorization
  • Must be lawfully eligible to work in the United States and complete a U.S. government I-9 Form.
  • Tactical Air Support is a Drug & Alcohol-Free Workplace
  • Pre-employment, random, or for cause drug/alcohol testing (including for marijuana) is required.
  • Pre-employment and ongoing physical certifications are required.
  • Occasional aircraft hangar or warehouse environment with exposure to loud noises, fumes from engines and chemicals, unpredictable climate (hot/cold), electrical shock, or trip or slip hazards.
  • May be exposed to or required to handle hazardous materials.
  • Specific work hours are determined by operational, departmental, or contractual requirements.
