QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Performs x-ray quality precision welding of company and customer products in compliance with rigid customer and engineering specifications and requirements using the GTAW process. At least one (1) of the following certifications must be maintained in accordance with AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02, in Groups I, II, III, IV or
OR
- Performs precision welding of company and customer products with two (2) or more certifications in accordance with AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02, in Groups I, II, III, IV, or VI and actively welds those materials. Departmental job requirements may require more than two (2)
MANUFACTURING STANDARDS: The operator must obtain and maintain:
- SSP Welding Certificate
- “S” Stamp
- Maintain a minimum output of 90%
- Maintain minimum product quality acceptance of 95%
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

MATERIALS WORKED ON:
Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of tubes, flat or formed sheet stock, forged materials, bar stock, castings, and extrusions.
MATERIALS WORKED WITH:
Emery cloth, cleaning solvents, and welding gases.
TOOLS USED:
Helmet and hand tools required for shop welder, clamps, scales, and fixtures.
EQUIPMENT USED:
AC and/or DC, automatic and semi-automatic welding machine, necessary torches, and welding gases,
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; and use hands to feel and reach welds in ducts or structures. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
SKILL TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Capable of producing acceptable weldments for welder
- Knowledgeable in reading weld
- Ability to read and comprehend written and oral
- Capable of setting up welding parameters using a qualified weld
- Able to use hand measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, scales).
- Welding Certificate from a Certified Welding School

HOW IS QUALIFICATION DETERMINED?
Candidates are required to submit weld samples from three different material groups (Group IIb, IIIb, IV, and VI) for visual, radiographic and metallographic acceptance and a physical visual eye examination is required.
