Stationary Engineer

Here is how the Stationary Engineer will help: 

  • Work safely and abide by all ACAA safety guidelines.
  • Develop or participate in the job safety analysis procedures.
  • Total maintenance of all stationary equipment, entailing diagnostics and parts, as well as tear-down/repair/rebuild of equipment and disposal or reclaim of refrigerants according to E.P.A. standards.
  • Monitor meters and gauges and automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
  • Record data such as temperature and pressure levels of equipment specs and hours of operation.
  • Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to remove equipment from service.
  • Visually inspect equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair and adjustment. Change filters, clean equipment to maintain indoor air quality standards.
  • Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, re-packing bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components.
  • Oil and lubricate equipment.
  • Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operators’ logbook
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.

Qualifications


The following requirements list the minimum education/training/experience required to qualify for this job. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted.


Requirements needed to qualify for the Stationary Engineer role are:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five years’ experience as a stationary engineer preferred.
  • Current license from the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) and Universal CFC license. (Applicants without a current license will have one year from hire date to acquire).
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the craft or equivalent training at an accredited trade or technical school, or military training preferred)
  • Current, valid Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or ability to maintain the same.
  • Must provide his/her own personal protective footwear (safety shoes) and hand tools.
  • Must adhere to ACAA guidelines set forth by the Department of Maintenance Dress Code and Personal Protective Equipment policy.
  • Willing to expand knowledge of different aspects of equipment such as economizers, damper controls, and pneumatics to maintain efficiency of equipment.

We also expect that candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities in most cases:  

  • Considerable knowledge of practices, methods, tools and materials of the stationary engineer trade; including brazing & soldering for repairs.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and techniques of safety precautions and injury prevention programs.
  • Considerable ability to work according to standard practices, using the tools, materials and equipment of the trade.
  • Considerable ability to operate and service direct expansion A/C units, including heat pumps.
  • Considerable ability to work well with others.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands and arms to reach; and talk or hear.   The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.

CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions; wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.   Employee may be assigned to work 6-2, 2-10, and 10-6 shifts, seven days a week including holidays. Subject to remain on duty beyond assigned working hours to provide assistance during extenuating circumstances.
