Design & Drafting Technician- Solidworks
Cannonsburg, PA
Contract Position
Support the development of next-generation mission-critical systems for national defense as a Design & Drafting Technician - SolidWorks. Contribute to the creation of advanced technologies for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance systems that serve the Army, Navy, Air Force, Special Forces, and other Federal Government agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize SolidWorks for detailed design and documentation of mechanical components and subsystems.
- Produce 2D and 3D CAD models for fabrication and assembly.
- Develop mechanical designs considering material requirements, manufacturability, and functional characteristics.
- Perform tolerance analysis and ensure designs meet engineering standards and project specifications.
- Create and update drawings, models, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using CAD software.
- Generate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) detailing necessary updates to released designs and route changes through the approval process.
- Check drawings for correctness and conformance to engineering drafting practices and standards.
- Assist engineers in the design and development of complex layouts for printed circuit boards and other assemblies.
- Participate in the design of high-density printed circuit boards based on preliminary schematics and part lists.
- Research and interface with vendors to recommend products and technical specifications that meet design requirements.
- Provide leadership and guidance to a small team of drafters as needed.
- Support the creation of technical documents, test procedures, and process documents.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree or equivalent required, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- SolidWorks experience is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance.
- Proficient knowledge of material requirements, fabrication techniques, and manufacturability concepts.
- Experience with CAD design principles, techniques, and documentation standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5M, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Strong understanding of mechanical stress, structural, thermal, and tolerance analysis.
- Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work within cost, schedule, and technology constraints.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
