Job Summary
This position is responsible for supplier quality, supporting procurement, and supporting supplier development improvements. Performs supplier audits, source inspections, and supplier performance analysis activities. Ability to work independently and to provide technical training and mentorship to junior Engineers, Technicians, and Inspectors.
Job Responsibilities
- Use technical process expertise and experiences in Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA) (including competency in assembly methods, component manufacturing, functional testing, and ESD) to drive successful launch of supplied components and actively work with commodity suppliers on process and quality management system continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with cross functional team members (Global Sourcing, Quality, and Operations)
- Participate in on-site assessment and evaluation of potential supplier manufacturing capability and quality system competency
- Perform component risk analysis based on design, manufacturing, and customer requirement complexity
- Manufacturing Design Feasibility Review as part of RFQ process, as required
- Collaborate with supply chain to ensure applicable quality clauses and/or other flow down requirements are captured on sourcing award PO and that suppliers understand the requirements
- Works to actively deploy DRS Naval Power Systems defined Supplier Quality Procedures, Processes and Work Instructions.
- Leads process and procedure reviews with cross functional team members as needed.
- Ability to work independently and to provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians and inspectors
- Attend appropriate customer, business or Program meetings
- Prepares quality engineering reports and recommendations
- Monitor and mentor junior Supplier Quality Engineers Provides regular reporting of progress and status
- Completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements
- 30+ travel and ability to travel with less than 48hr notice
Job Responsibilities Part II
Product Realization
- Assist in Product Realization (e.g. APQP) elements of identified high risk components with the supplier to ensure quality requirements are adhered and start of production timing is delivered to project/change milestones
- Utilize appropriate administrative tools to track and document launch progress and provide milestone updates to internal customers and define recovery plans as necessary
- Ensure proper supplier gauge plans/inspection techniques are in place for all critical and passthrough characteristics and lead the development and correlation of appropriate incoming receiving inspection plans with the DRS receiving site supplier quality team
- Ensure supplier First article Inspection packages are submitted to project timing requirements with 100 site approval first pass yield
Supplier Performance
- Assist procurement team in developing supplier metrics and participate in regular supplier reviews.
- Provide on-site support at supplier locations for SCAR (corrective action) validation and/or business critical initiatives (e.g. OTD impacted by OEE, Low Risk component test failure, etc.) as necessary
- Lead select under-performing, strategic suppliers through systemic corrective actions and site visits for positive supplier performance metric impact.
- Identify and lead proactive supplier improvement activities determined by negative trending performance metrics
Qualifications
- 5 years demonstrated experience in Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA) manufacturing or design is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge
- Experienced with ISO Standards, Statistics, Microsoft Office Programs Ability to understand military specifications and to read blue prints with GD&T background Experienced in problem solving with ability to provide training to suppliers as needed
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills
- Ability to travel as required.
U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
