Summary Provide technical interface between the customer and Special Metals. The functional responsibilities of the position include administering to daily technical issues, understanding the product end use and material constraints, defining internal requirements necessary to product the product and addressing customer technical concerns when a product fails to meet expectations. In addition, the product engineer is responsible for providing technical support for Sales (review of RFQs, new orders and specifications), Manufacturing (definition of process steps and item review) and Quality (definition of MOMs). Essential Functions Administer to daily technical issues as directed by the Manager for ensuring a consistent and reliable product. Define/approve process routes (items) necessary to meet the product material and end use property constraints. Maintain an ongoing technical interface via technical meetings and discussions with the customer as assigned. Perform necessary technical evaluations to address customer concerns. Investigate claims and document findings. Provide technical direction for new products and inquires. Provide technical support where appropriate to other areas of the organization Qualifications Education and Experience A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required preferably in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science. An advance degree and/or one to three years of experience is a plus. Special Skills The employee will have knowledge of the principles and practices VAR/VIM/ESR melting, the ability to prepare written reports and correspondence as well as presentations to senior leadership, the ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and external, excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
