What You Will Do
Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications.
Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Create and develop ladder logic programs for Siemens PLC control systems. Work closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated teams to develop new processes and implement new designs into production.
- System Integration: Integrate instrumentation and control systems with existing processes and machinery. Create and implement strategies for automation to improve quality and minimize process cost. Lead the strategy for comprehensive data collection and analysis that will support robust process development and understanding as part of the digital thread for CMCs.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and control systems, ensuring minimal downtime. Conduct root cause investigations as required and implement corrective actions.
- Calibration and Testing: Calibrate instruments and control devices to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of control systems, including P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), loop sheets, and SEMA drawings.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all systems comply with safety regulations and standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, technicians, and stakeholders to optimize system performance.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of controls/electrical experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 5 years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- 2+ years of experience/strong knowledge of ladder logic programming, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) applications.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and documenting processes.
- Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Controls Engineering discipline
- Experience developing PLC ladder logic and sequencing with Siemens PLC based systems.
- Experience with chemical processing.
- Ability to perform instrument calculations, such as valve sizing and voltage.
- High degree of accuracy in diagnosing, calibrating, and modifying control systems.
- Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
The salary range for this role is 105,000 USD - 221,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
