Job Summary
Working in Tech Operations, Engineering students will gain valuable experience through tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating. Under the guidance of the Fleet Management Team, the student will undertake engineering projects, provide technical input, and assist with the day-to-day needs of the airline. Our Co-op students will be exposed to a variety of aspects of Avionics, Systems, Structures and Powerplant Engineering, including Aircraft Performance and Reliability, Vendor Maintenance Manuals, Troubleshooting and Root-Cause Analysis, Technical Document interpretation as well as Technical Writing, and other areas as deemed appropriate.
The Co-op students are committed to 3 non-consecutive semesters, consisting of a 12-week rotation per semester, throughout their academic career. Co-op students will work a typical 40-hour per week schedule at Spirit’s Headquarters in Dania Beach, Florida.
Pay Rate: $24/hr.
Learn about the Airline’s Engineering organization, by developing and completing engineering Projects designed to enhance the efficiencies of the department. Develop understanding of Avionics, Systems, Structures and Powerplant Engineering processes and procedures while assisting with operational needs of the airline.
Review operational interruptions data, such as delays, cancellations, and out-of-service aircraft, to help develop and implement corrective actions, working closely with the Aircraft Engineering teams.
- Review OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) Service Bulletins, Service Letters, FARs, CFRs, Airworthiness Directives, and other service documents to determine applicability and assist for implementation.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Control to optimize aircraft utilization and minimize downtime.
- Evaluate aircraft reliability and find solutions by developing tasks and/or processes to improve aircraft performance.
Required to present projects and/or accomplishments to department leadership at the end of the term.
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate. (e.g., emergencies, changes in workload, rush jobs or technical developments.)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 0-1 years experience
- Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Certificates/Licenses:
Currently enrolled and in pursuit of undergraduate (sophomore or above) or graduate degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering, Finance or Business degree from an accredited college/university.
- Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be able to maintain the minimum GPA.
- Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment to creatively solve technical problems. Must be a self-motivated problem solver who demonstrates flexibility in acceptance of assignments and schedules.
- Candidate must also have the ability to complete assignments with minimum supervision.
- Good technical writing skills, oral communication and presentation skills are essential.
Experience with data analysis tools (Power Bi) is a plus.
- Great attention to detail and strong communication skills are necessary.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and basic PC skills.
