Job Summary:
Pratt & Whitney India Engineering Center (IEC) is looking for a highly motivated Structures Engineer II to join our Aftermarket & Sustainment Engineering (ASE) Commercial Repairs team. This position involves analyzing repairs to ensure they meet original equipment manufacturing (OEM) requirements, supporting customer safety, cost, and reliability objectives. ASE is uniquely linked between the engine development / certification and aftermarket and field support engine life cycles. This results in our repairs having a direct impact on the bottom line of Pratt & Whitney’s maintenance repair and overhaul revenue and success. The Senior Structures Engineer closely interacts with fellow ASE engineers from structures, design, project, and program, along with other module center engineers from the CIPT and design metallurgy, among others, to develop technical data to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost requirements. The ASE organization strongly values coaching and mentoring of all engineers, regardless of individual’s experience. This role also has an active role in the development of others as well as themselves.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the structural assessments of repairs to commercial engine components with minimal guidance.
- Awareness of Integrated Product Development (IPD), Structures Engineering Knowledge System (EKS), and the Product Design Review process.
- Support coordination of structural analysis requirements for repairs with other ASE technical disciplines and module centers/ Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs).
- Participate on multi-disciplinary teams to develop design solutions that meet design and life requirements.
- Work on structural analysis solutions with minimal guidance when historical solutions are not available or applicable. Analysis may include both classical methods and/or detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Support co-ordination with others to advance the technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods, plus document and present results to management and customers.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5 to 8 years of experience with a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Production)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluent in ANSYS or other FEA software.
- Awareness of manufacturing and/or repair processes.
- Understanding of low cycle fatigue and fatigue and fracture analysis theory and applications.
- Experience using Pratt & Whitney/industry lifing systems: PWLIFE, ARLS, or crack growth (SURCK, Darwin, Franc3D) systems a plus.
- Background in turbomachinery
- Familiarity with Raytheon Technologies CORE Operating System
