Director, Engineering Components
Location: Fort Worth, TX - work is onsite

Pay: $109,000 - $158,000 annually (depending on experience)
SUMMARY: The Engineering Director is responsible for overall management of the engineering team of a designated business focus as well as the interface with all internal and external stakeholders and resources. Directs Engineering staff to achieve accurate and timely completion of engineering activities and ensuring compliance with all appropriate regulatory, customer and OEM requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides overall leadership of designated Engineering Group.
• Works closely with the Commercial Sales/Business Development Team and Operations to identify, assess, and implement new capabilities to continue to grow and modernize component repair and overhaul.
• Participates in the development of Engineering and related Strategic Plans.
• Develops and presents business cases and plans to Senior Leadership Team for assessment of Engineering opportunities.
• Presents value-based opportunities to customers for Engineering Programs.
• Maintains adequate staffing of the Engineering Group.
• Works with Project Engineers and Repair Engineers to hire, organize and provide training for Engineering staff in performance of their tasks and responsibilities. This includes engineering, technical publications, drafting and administrative personnel.
• Delegates responsibility and manages Repair Engineers and other subordinate supervisory personnel.
• Works with Project Engineers to plan, organize and schedule staff to maintain responsiveness to internal and external customer requirements.
• Provides oversight and mentoring to technical and engineering resources.
• In collaboration with Maintenance and Quality Control, performs detailed measurement of components for inspection, repair, and overhaul that require complex instrumentation and/or programs (e.g., FARO Arm, 3D Modeling) and calibrated measurement devices (e.g., micrometers, calipers).
• Solicits and manages consultant contracts for off-load of departmental workload.
• Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, regulatory requirements, and other specifications.
• Ensures that appropriate data is acceptable to the FAA Administrator, or technical analysis for which FAA approval can be obtained and is used in developing engineering design, modification, stress, and certification.
• Develops budget and controls departmental expenditures in compliance with overhead or project budgets.
• Interacts with customer representatives, regulatory authorities, and manufacturers.
• Interfaces with COMPANY Engineering and Airframe Business Units to assess historic internal maintenance and repair data to provide Alternate Components Solutions to the market.
• Actively leads and participates on inter-departmental teams through Lean Operations activities.
OTHER DUTIES:
• Position may require occasional travel, being on-call and responding to technical situations during off hours.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, interviewing; providing guidance; coaching and developing employees; planning and assigning work for direct reports; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to understand and promote the policies and procedures of the company.
• Ability to interpret and use aircraft manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, negotiation skills and leadership skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal functional areas, senior leadership and customers.
• Strong understanding of FAA regulatory requirements to include CFR Part 21, Part 25, Part 91 and 121 carriers.
• Proven ability to effectively manage multiple crucial projects at one time.
• Proven ability to execute written contractual documents.
• Ability to understand complex operations from a broad perspective.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in an environment where limited standardization exists.
• Possess a high level of technical expertise in the engineering discipline.
• Possess a high level of judgement and decision-making abilities.
• Strong PC skills to include MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), operating systems, and basic computer drafting and analysis skills.
• Acute knowledge of regulatory requirements for airworthiness, for the FAA and various foreign authorities (JAA, JAR, CAA, DGAC, CAAC, etc.).
• Ability to understand and apply information from Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (MMs), Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPCs), Service Bulletins (SBs) and other aircraft reference materials.
• Strong teaching, coaching and people skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and minimum of five (5) years of aerospace experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA preferred.
• Aircraft repair and accessories engineering experience preferred.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND DEXTERITY:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit, stand, and walk; use their hands and arms; and talk or hear; and focus on objects close up. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
ENVIRONMENT:
Normal business office conditions generally prevail. The noise level is typically low to moderate. Employee may be working in a cubicle, enclosed office, or open area. The floor may be carpeted or bare.
