Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines. Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications.

Located in South Gate, CA., Dickson Testing Company, Inc. is a full-service destructive testing laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services, our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut off services, and heat treat capability.
Position Summary
The Controls Engineer continually investigates materials, methods and mechanisms for new development or improvements of equipment, fabrication and testing processes. The Controls Engineer is responsible for eliminating waste in the manufacturing process, applying innovative systems to improve company workflows, setting criteria for quality and speed, then consistently measuring manufacturing behaviors and evaluating their success. They adjust production lines and integrate new technology to improve the supply and production chain. The Controls Engineer trains factory staff on how to properly incorporate new technology and methods into current production standards. They ensure manufacturing processes and/or methods of manufacture are capable of meeting and continuing to meet requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead-time.

- Supports and complies with the company&39;s Quality System, AS9100, Cardinal Rules of Quality, Cardinal Rules of Safety
- Develops and documents manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
- Completes new equipment design and development projects by training and guiding shop employees.
- Supply and accomplish accurate completion dates of all projects.
- Improves manufacturing efficiency and safety by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Takes ownership and accountability of projects.
- Support with new equipment procurement ensuring reliability and functionality.
- Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
- Troubleshoot production problems as required.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Develop and write detailed instructions for the manufacture of products.
- Analyze production data and look for trends indicating potential problems and develop solutions for potential problems.
- Leverage PCC toolbox such as Lean Six Sigma in order to improve factory performance.
- Analyze engineering drawings to determine optimum manufacturing sequence and tooling requirements for new designs or modifications of current products from a productivity and ongoing production standpoint.
- Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment and investigate their potential applications. Recommend incorporation of new technology for company applications where feasible and practical.
- Assist in the continuous improvement of standard work in the department and in the training and development of other department personnel.
- Reinforce the idea and culture of continuous improvement and motivate ideas for pipeline improvement projects.
- Partner with other departments to ensure specimens are fabricated and tested according to requirements, specifications and on-time delivery expectations.
- Performs root cause investigations to support production technical issues.
- Documents standard work with work instructions.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry specifications, customer specifications, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree Manufacturing, Electrical, Industrial, Aerospace, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Four years, minimum, related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working in a destructive, or non-destructive, lab is highly preferred but not required.
Required Skills
- Design and troubleshoot process control systems.
- Engineer, design and test electrical, instrumentation and automation systems associated with industrial manufacturing plants.
- PLC/HMI hardware/software design, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and engineer electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and PLC logic.
- Design and implement process network infrastructure (Ethernet, Device Net, Control Net, etc.).
- Specify and procure controls hardware and field instrumentation.
- A strong technical aptitude along with the ability to work independently, yet interact closely with other departments, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to analyze production data and develop solutions.
- Effective verbal, written and computer skills required as well as mathematical, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Effective use of PC applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Power Point.

- Understand and assist in application of company safety procedures, Lock & Tag, and Arc Flash.

Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of PLC ladder logic, programming methods, and process related control systems. (Allen Bradley Micro Logix, RS Logix 500 and Control Logix Platforms)
- Ability to examine complex electrical problems, identify source of problems, determine method for repair; plan and organize work; complete complex electrical tasks by using and understanding Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of automation (PLC) and electrical system design, diagnosis and operation.
- Knowledge of applicable Electrical Code.
- Ability to operate various power, voltage and current measurement equipment via test instruments and hand tools.
