Candidate must be able to act independently without guidance when tasked as a “Ground Flight Observer” for Libby Army Airfield. They are responsible to ensure the airspace is clear of unannounced aircraft during ground taxi and local pattern flight operations of the Gray Eagle UAS. This includes, but is not limited to, avoidance of other traffic, clouds, obstructions and terrain. Ground Flight Observers are required for all takeoffs and full-stop landings, as well as for all planned practice approaches, touch-and-go landings, and stop-and-go landings conducted in Libby Army Airfield Class D exclusion area. The Ground Flight Observer shall have visual situational awareness of airfield and flight pattern conditions and be able to communicate those conditions via direct communication with the Unmanned Aircraft operator.
Responsibilities
- Enforces regulations and procedures designed to prevent breaches of security, exercises judgment and uses discretion in responding to incidents and emergencies, determining whether to intervene directly, ask for assistance as time permits, keep situation under control or surveillance, or to report incident or situation to the appropriate authority for handling
- Duties require specialized training in methods and techniques of protecting controlled areas
- Commonly, the Guard II is required to demonstrate proficiency with firearms and other special weapons, and to meet rigorous physical fitness standards
Qualifications
- Class II Federal Aviaton Administration Flight Physical required
- Current Drivers License in Good Standing required
- U.S. Citizen required
- Approved background check required
- Pass a urinalysis test required
