Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week.  This provides flexibility the remaining 40 of the work week.  This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues.  Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Strategy, this role blends strategic planning, financial analysis, and project leadership.  You are a results-driven individual who demonstrates a high standard of excellence and enjoys the opportunity to solve complex problems. You must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment. 

Strategic Planning is focused on the development, refinement, and ongoing management of WestJet’s corporate strategy. The Senior Analyst will support the delivery of WestJet’s annual strategy process and will also be responsible for developing and presenting analytical insights to support key growth initiatives across WestJet’s entire business. This role requires thought leadership, financial modeling skills, and exceptional storytelling, working cross-functionally to deliver on initiatives that increase value for the organization.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Driving the planning process for WestJet’s corporate strategy including: strategic positioning, short and long-term growth plans, and scorecard management of objectives and key results;  
  • Developing complex financial and strategic analyses to support Executive / Board of Director-level decisions on major strategic and tactical initiatives; 
  • Authoring and delivering high-impact presentations and plans for stakeholders including the Executive Leadership Team and / or Board of Directors;
  • Working closely with business unit partners to execute rigorous analysis and summarize insights in a way that facilitates Executive Leadership Team and / or Board of Director decisions; 
  • Developing a deep understanding and staying current with industry trends and the competitive landscape; 
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and partners to obtain information and complete analyses. 

Experience and qualifications:

  • Degree in business, economics, finance, or related subject is required; MBA, CFA, and / or CPA is preferred;
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in corporate development, strategic planning, management consulting, or investment banking;
  • Understanding of airline economics is required; prior airline experience is not a requirement, though a passion for commercial aviation is a must;
  • Demonstrated experience creating high-impact presentations for senior executives, able to craft a thoughtful story with clear recommendations to complex problems; 
  • Proven skills in developing complex analysis on major strategic initiatives where errors in logic, judgment, and / or math are extremely costly and very difficult to reverse; 
  • Proven ability to conduct detailed financial and strategic analysis, drawing out implications and recommendations; 
  • Naturally curious, detail-oriented individual that takes great pride in delivering high-quality results; 
  • Well-rounded interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively build strong internal and external relationships; 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with tight deadlines.
