The Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM) develops and manages medical programs in support of Aviation Safety. This position is a part of the Regional Augmentation Team (RAT). The Team supports the Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM) regional program efforts and other AAM efforts in the performance of AAM employee’s primary duties, including preparation for and response to public health events affecting the aviation industry.
Duties
As a member of the RAT, the individual is subject to activation for public health operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employees official position description.
Incumbent performs a combination of routine, multiple, and varying assignments under the limited direction of the manager, project/program manager, team leader or more experienced professional.
Typical assignments may include collecting and analyzing data/information; conducting research; applying policies and procedures; identifying problems; and working with higher-level and lower-level professionals in day-to-day operations in one or more regional programs.
Works closely with medical officers to assure the following: (1) medical certifications are only issued to medically qualified airmen, (2) ATCS physical exams meet program requirements, (3) an appropriate number of qualified physicians are selected, designated and trained as AMEs to conduct FAA medical examinations of civil airmen, (4) AME site visits and quality assurance reviews are conducted and (5) All phases of the DOT drug and alcohol testing program, including pre-employments/pre-appointment, random, follow-up, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident testing are coordinated. This position may require travel in support of these program areas.
Responsible for ensuring all activities are performed in accordance with established regulations. Incumbent may provide technical direction to other staff personnel in the division as well as communicating technical program information to a diverse audience orally and in writing. Incumbent complies with all Quality Management System requirements.
FV-0343-G Duties:
Acts as an individual contributor and/or member of a team for project/programs within a defined area of responsibility.
Applies experience and detailed knowledge applicable to programs within the Aerospace Medicine Division to plan and accomplish assignments.
Conducts analyses in the review and evaluation of program activities.
Work is typically reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness policy compliance, and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity.
FV-0343-H Duties:
May act as a contributing specialist on large work activities or as a project manager or team leader for large projects/programs/activities.
Applies experience and advanced knowledge applicable to programs within the Aerospace Medicine Division to plan and accomplish assignments. Assignments may require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines.
Applies analytical techniques in reviewing, interpreting, and summarizing medical information and documents.
Demonstrates considerable independence in planning time and helping a manager, project/program manager, and/or team lead to plan and use assigned resources to accomplish tasks.
Work at this level requires the application of experience and advanced knowledge applicable to program systems and processes. May be called upon by peers in problem solving or process development initiatives that require subject matter leadership. Works with management and more experience professionals to jointly solve problems.
Resolves most problems and work issues without the assistance of a manager or more experienced professional. Refers to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional for problems or issues that require their attention.
Work is reviewed periodically, typically at major milestones and/or completion for policy compliance, and alignment with the requirements of the work being performed.
