Job Description:

As a Facilities Technician, here is what you’ll be doing at the core, day to day.

Facilities Technicians perform general maintenance tasks to ensure a company buildings and facilities are in good condition and compliant with all applicable regulations. In addition, Facility Technicians are responsible for general repair and maintenance or the coordinate of repair and maintenance of company industrial equipment such as scissor lifts, forklifts, pushback tugs, and other equipment. They perform routine checks on numerous systems, and they respond to maintenance requests regarding specific problems with all aspects of the buildings and office space. These technicians may also work at keeping building amenities functioning properly and handle landscaping tasks and snow cleanup. Additionally, they work with vendors, suppliers and inspectors as needed.

  • Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork and completing/status assigned work orders generated from ticket request system, documenting all repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as meetings, employee events, etc.
  • Request and/or order parts, supplies, or equipment as needed to perform routine maintenance.
  • Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or with hand trucks.
  • Make adjustments or minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  • Responsible for inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
  • Assemble, install, and/or repair general wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
  • Paint or repair windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
  • Adjust functional parts of various office and manufacturing equipment, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.
  • Align and balance new equipment after installation.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems of various manufacturing equipment such as scissor lifts, hand trucks, pull carts, etc., and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • May be required to operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Fabricate or repair counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures, such as sheds or outbuildings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Here’s what is required to succeed as a Facilities Technician.

  • High School Diploma/GED plus
  • Mechanical Focus: Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.
  • Electrical Focus: Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.
  • Knowledge of general plumbing principles.
  • 1 – 3 years of relevant facilities experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Requires knowledge of general maintenance functions such as plumbing, swamp coolers, chillers, HVAC, basic electric, general carpentry skills, and painting.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Demonstrate analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within and between work groups.
  • Ability to read and write English. Accommodations may be made where available.
  • Preferred Education, Experience, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with electrical, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing codes and safety procedures or equivalent certification. (Preferred)
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant facilities experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment. (Preferred)
