Job Description:

Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics’ (PIA) Pittsburgh Campus is looking for an Associate Dean of Education to oversee and enhance academic programs and student services. This full-time, exempt position offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.

The Associate Dean of Education role involves supervising the Student Services Coordinator, supporting faculty, and collaborating with campus leadership to ensure effective curriculum delivery and student success. Associate Dean of Education Responsibilities:

     Personnel Management, Instructional Support, and Campus-Level Leadership  
  • Supervise and support Student Services Coordinator. 
  • Serve as a resource to new hire faculty and direct reports. 
  • Provide guidance and collaboration to Dean of Aviation Technology in areas of expertise. 
  • Assist Dean of Aviation Technology in identifying professional development opportunities for instructional staff. 
  • Assist Dean of Aviation Technology in development of faculty and academic term course and classroom schedules/assignments. 
  • Collaborate with other campus leadership on issues that arise and share best practices. 
  • Coordinate with direct reports and administration to develop and manage student affairs.  
  • Gather department information for agency reporting, as needed.  

     Curriculum and Outcomes Management 
  • Evaluate transcripts for tuition credit and coordinate bypass examinations for all PIA campuses.  
  • Coordinate the development and improvement of lesson plans, tests, and other instructional materials. 
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of PIA programs and curriculum for all campuses. 
  • Coordinate ongoing training, and development of PIA Learning Management System for all PIA faculty and staff. 
  • Assess student outcomes, including withdrawal, graduation, and exam pass rates. Work with Dean of Aviation Technology to implement improvement strategies as needed. 

     Student Affairs 
  • Review student attendance and grades when appropriate. 
  • Work with students, instructors, and student records personnel regarding advisement, counseling, discipline, and withdrawals. 
  • Manage student advisement documentation and communication procedures. 
  • Coordinate with Dean of Aviation Technology to arrange instruction for students who require additional guidance and support.  
  • Develop and implement student retention strategies. 
  • Coordinate with instructors to provide additional instruction for students who require guidance and support. 
  • Oversee Student Activities and on-campus services.  
  • Work with Executive Director of Academic and Student Affairs to coordinate student accommodations.  
  • Prepare quarterly report of Student and Academic Affairs activities. 

     Meeting and Events 
  • Participate in faculty, staff, and institutional leadership meetings.  
  • Coordinate Student Rep meetings and activities. 
  • Participate in and assist other departments with school-related events (open houses, career fair, etc.). 
  • Coordinate and develop student orientation for Pittsburgh campus. 
  • Coordinate Pittsburgh Campus Program Advisory Committee meetings.  

Associate Dean of Education Qualifications:

     Minimum Skills/Education 
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree Preferred) in related discipline or a combination of other formal education with five (5) years of related work experience in the higher education sector. 
  • Technical Education Experience (Preferred).
  • Five (5) years of full-time teaching/training and/or applicable higher ed management experience. 
  • Previous experience with learning management software and student information systems (Canvas or Anthology Preferred).
  • Managerial skills, including organizational, scheduling, leadership, and communication both written and verbal. 

     Knowledge, Skills & Traits: 
  • Superior communication skills, including verbal, written, organizational, interpersonal, presentation/public speaking.
  • Strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, & internet use.
  • Problem solving, conflict resolution, collaboration.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple institutional and departmental priorities, projects, and deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively collect data, interpret data, and effectively communicate and present to management.
  • Adept at networking and public speaking.
  • Familiarization with relevant educational and technical governing agencies and their applicable regulations.
  • Highly Proficient in computer file management, database, and email systems.

     Other Job Requirements 
  • Adhere to all applicable tenets set forth in the Employee Handbook. 
  • Contribute to essential School publications such as the Catalog/Student Handbook. 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development programs. 
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
